VTOL aircraft can take off and land vertically, like a helicopter. VTOLs are usually powered by engines or jets and have tiltrotors or ducted fans to provide lift. They are typically used for short-range transportation or military purposes. The advantage of VTOLs is their ability to operate in confined spaces and their ability to take off and land vertically which reduces the need for large airport runways.
Here are some example findings from our report:
- Ionblox: Low-cost, fast-charge batteries for eVTOLs.
- A paper on navigating VTOL UAVs without GPS.
- Aura Aerospace is building a VTOL with Mach 0.66 cruise speed and over 11,000 miles of range.
