Cellulose is an organic compound. It is an essential component of the primary cell wall of green plants. Cellulose is mainly used to produce paperboard and paper. Smaller quantities are converted into derivative products such as cellophane and rayon. But recent developments in materials science go much further, producing materials that are extremely strong and light-weight at the same time.
