Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) technology is the integration of laboratory functions on a single chip of less than 1 cm2 in size. This technology has the potential to revolutionize the way in which we diagnose and treat disease. LOCs can be used to perform a wide variety of biochemical tests, including DNA analysis, blood tests, and drug tests. In addition, LOCs can be used to create miniature “labs-on-a-chip” that can be used for a variety of applications, including environmental monitoring, food safety testing, and water quality testing.
Some of the emerging trends in Lab-On-A-Chip technology include the use of microfluidic devices for point-of-care diagnostics, the use of 3D printing for the fabrication of microfluidic devices, and the use of Lab-On-A-Chip devices for the analysis of single cells.
